Spiritual Growth

NEW TO UNITARIAN UNIVERSALISM?

Monday, March 17th
Wednesday, March 19th
7:30 - 9:30 pm at UCSP

A new and updated orientation session for newcomers or people interested in Unitarian Universalism introduces the history, practices, and diversity of our liberal faith. It is also an opportunity to listen to and share the variety of views that we welcome. It is an opportunity to ask questions about our faith perspectives in a small group setting.

SPIRIT OF THE DRUM

Second Mondays of the Month
7:30 pm at UCSP

Come drum with us! This monthly event is designed for beginners as well as experienced drummers. Fun for all ages. Our excellent facilitator Zoe Kessler provides the drums and other instruments. The group comes amazingly together in sound and rhythm. Adults $20 and children $10 to cover expenses.

THE WORLD’S FAITHS

Wednesdays, February 13th and 20th
March 5th and 12th
7:30 - 9:30 pm at UCSP

These four sessions explore some of the themes and variations of the world’s faith. What makes them similar? What gives them their unique qualities? The evenings study the structure, theology, and practices of some of the predominant world religions — from Eastern faiths like Buddhism, Shintoism, and Taoism to native American and African traditions, from European pagan practices to the teachings of Jesus, from ancient religions like Hinduism and Judaism to newer religions like Mormonism and Baha’i. Participants will identify the particular religious groups to learn about, and the sessions include practical tips for hosting guests, visiting other faiths, and attending rites and other events (weddings, funerals, etc.)

For the Spiritually Adventurous

SOURCEFIRE

1st and 3rd Thursdays
  7:30 p.m. at UCSP

Share ritual, music, drumming, meditation, readings, dance, and more. Small groups take turns planning each meeting by sharing their talents and experiences.

SACRED CIRCLE DANCE

2nd and 4th Thursdays
7:30 pm at UCSP

Come join us to dance in community. Experience the soft rhythms of folk music . . . slip-step-grapevine-twirl-clap. The dance swirls slowly around the room creating a calm, meditative state of mind. Dances are taught step-by-step at every circle so no previous experience is necessary. The circle is open to both men and women.

Personal Development

THE ARGUMENTARIANS

The Argumentarians are a group of not-like-minded individuals who meet about every three weeks at various locations to discuss and argue about issues of interest to group members. If you are argumentative, have a sense of humour, don't take offence easily, and are strong willed, you may be interested.

MEN'S GROUPS
(determined by members of each group)

UCSP sponsors small groups for men who explore their journeys as males. They provide supportive settings for a deeper sharing of participants lives and stories and offer places for them to focus on some of the challenging issues that men face in present-day society. Participants s commit themselves to regular attendance and confidentiality.

Sharing Fellowship

DAYTIMERS

1st and 3rd Wednesdays
12 noon to 3 pm at UCSP

Bring your lunch and chat awhile. Sometimes we have a speaker — travelogues are very popular. We also enjoy tours. Bring your ideas for activities: tours, movies, videos, presentations, etc.

BOOK CLUB

4th Tuesday
 1:15 pm in members’ homes

Here is a forum for discussing your favourite book, old or new, with other book lovers. The group decides its own reading list. Consult the newsletter for the “book-of-the-month” and the month’s host.

SOUTH PEEL CHOIR

Sundays
9:30 am (practice) in the Great Hall

Love to sing? Join this group of mixed voices to sing at worship services every month. The music we perform reflects the diversity of music itself. Newcomers are always welcome.

Social Justice and Environment

CANADIAN UNITARIANS FOR
SOCIAL JUSTICE (CUSJ)

From homeless to the environment, from globalization to equitable taxation, CUSJ members at South Peel look to change the current system. They research issues, plan educational events and programs, and organize social action projects in our communities.

LUNCHES ON MAVIS
MISSISSAUGA HOMELESS SHELTER

Every Wednesday at noon
