WEDDINGS and CEREMONIES

Weddings
and Other
Rites of Passage
for Non-Members
  • Weddings
  • Rededication of vows
  • Recommitment ceremonies
  • Child-naming ceremonies and dedications
  • Funerals and memorial services

Our Lay Chaplains perform these Rites of Passage for the general public in the Peel-Halton Regions and surrounding areas.

These men and women are not ministers of religion, but provincially licensed lay people and are members of our congregation, specially trained to provide these services.

Fees for ceremonies are discussed in advance with the Lay Chaplain.

We feel strongly that families and couples
of mixed faith or without a faith community
should have access to
the benefits of religious ceremonies
marking important Rites of Passage

This is a service available to the wider community, resulting from a desire on the part of many to have a personalized, significant and unique service for their Rite of Passage whether it be faith-based or civil and regardless of sexual orientation.

UCSP has five experienced Lay Chaplains, who are licensed under the Marriage Act of Ontario, serving the Peel and Halton Regions and surrounding areas

The Lay Chaplains: Ellen Newman, Ann Bone, Carol Gilliam, Carole Berry and Joanne Whitford  take pride in guiding couples and families in designing memorable and joyful services.

Our Lay Chaplains recognize that different people have different needs and preferences.

Preparations for services are in consultation
with the parties involved. Lay Chaplains have a
wide variety of readings, sample services
and suggestions and will ensure services
are relevant and reflective of your
personal circumstances and belief.

Consequently, ceremonies are designed to reflect both the objective of the couple or the family involved, and the fundamental values and liberal religious tradition of Unitarianism since its beginnings in the early 1500’s.We believe that those involved in the planning should come away with the feeling that this is very much their ceremony.

Our Lay Chaplains are available to perform these ceremonies at any location in the Peel-Halton Regions and surrounding areas, such as private homes, public or home gardens and rented halls.

The Unitarian Congregation in Mississauga has a new Worship Hall including catering facilities and is be suitable for any Rite of Passage ceremony, depending on the number of guests.

The new hall is available for rent. Please call the church office at 905-278-5622 for further information or to book space.
