Curriculum Descriptions

INFANTS TO 36 MONTHS

Individualized attention with appropriate toys and activities are provided to help make the babies and toddlers feel comfortable with us.

THREE TO FIVE YEAR OLDS

Known as the SUNFLOWERS, this class will begin with Just Because I Am, gentle lessons that help them identify things that are valuable about themselves. They learn that their worth is related to who they are not what they do, look like, or have. Later, their lessons will draw from We Are Many, We Are One. This curriculum helps to develop their sense of identity within our religious community and their world.

GRADES ONE TO FOUR

Known also as The HOLY COWS the children in this class will experience a new program entitled Spirit Play. This curriculum helps the children to make meaning of their lives through the container of Unitarian Universalism. Through story, wondering and a personal manipulation of art materials they find their own answers to existential questions such as 'Who am I? Where did I come from? What is my purpose? What are my gifts? How do I choose to live my life? What happens when I die? and Why am I lonely and sad sometimes?

GRADES FIVE TO EIGHT

Also known as The BARN KIDS these young people will begin with the curriculum In Our Hands, a Peace and Social Justice Program. It encourages their development as makers of peace and justice in themselves and in their communities. In January, they will spend 5 weeks on Lessons of Loss, where they discuss the universality of the experience and identify their questions, concerns, and anxieties in a safe and nurturing environment. Toward the end of the year, they will take on a social action project.

YOUTH ~ages 14 to 20

The Youth Program incorporates these five aspects—leadership, social action, worship, curricula and fun. Youth empowerment is a key element in nurturing our teenagers to become responsible and caring young adults. Two Youth Advisors who listen, encourage and celebrate the many gifts the Youth have to offer facilitate the program.
